Recent Awards and Honors!

The first cohort of TPSR Fund recipients in 2010-2011 were: Tanya Forneris & Doris Watson, Vicky Paraschak, and Mike Reeder.

Dave Walsh was awarded a sabbatical from San Francisco State University for the Fall 2010 semester to do a Spanish language immersion course in Mexico.

Amy and Rob Castaneda, our TPSR Alliance colleagues, won the global award they were up for at the Beyond Sport Conference! Their Beyond the Ball program won for Project Play in the category of The Most Courageous Use of Sport.

Paul Wright received a Fulbright Research Award to conduct a TPSR implementation study in Valecia, Spain in Spring 2010.

Dave Walsh was given AAHPERD’s 2009 Social Justice and Diversity Young Professional Award (Doris Watson received this same award in 2003)

Paul Wright was inducted as an AAHPERD Research Consortium Fellow in 2009

Don Hellison was given AAHPERD’s Gullick Award in 2008

Paul Wright was given a Health Research Fellowship from the Center for Community Health in 2007 to examine the role of personal and social responsibility in urban physical education

Tenure, Promotion and Career Updates!

Don Hellison was honored with Professor Emeritus status by the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2010.

James Kullusky was hired as the Executive Director of Coach Across America in 2010.

Nick Cutforth (University of Denver) has been promoted to Full Professor based on his engaged scholarship agenda.

Paul Wright (University of Memphis) and Dave Walsh (San Francisco State University) both received tenure and were promoted to Associate Professor in 2008 based in large part on their community-engaged work and TPSR research.
