Welcome to TPSR website
 NEWS:
>Here is the information for the TPSR Academy that will be held at Adelphi University this summer. This is the "Learning how to do TPSR" model, done in a week, with children and under the direct supervision of Don and other TPSR experts.

It is official: The TPSR Alliance Conference (Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility through physical activity) will be back for a third year, this time in Chicago on JUNE 10-12, 2010!

The conference will be hosted as usual by Don Hellison, Gloria Balague, and the rest of the TPSR board, including James Kallusky who is back in the fold.

TPSR Conference Registration is available here. Conference registration is free, BUT we need to know who is coming!

As in the past, the conference is designed to be interactive – no keynote speakers or talking-but-not-listening heads, please. The aim is for physical activity and physical education professionals who share similar values but occupy a variety of roles (e.g., teachers, youth workers, youth sport coaches, university faculty involved in professional preparation) to interact, share their ideas and stories, and perhaps start an ongoing dialogue or a joint project.

In the past, the conference has attracted both those committed to TPSR as well as those who want to learn about it. After experimenting last year, the Board decided to focus the conference on those who already know TPSR and want to interact with and perhaps learn from other TPSR users. However, we hope to offer those who want to learn about TPSR one week summer TPSR Academies (thanks to Nick Cutforth), hopefully this summer at two different locations. Details will follow.

A list of topics to be addressed at the conference will be posted on our website. Meanwhile, please send us any ideas you have for discussion topics or possible projects to pursue.

HOTEL INFORMATION FOR THE JUNE CONFERENCE

If you need housing, we have arranged with the Crowne Chicago Metro hotel to receive reduced rates for the conference. The cost per night is $149 (we will take care of the hotel tax). We have a limited block of rooms on a first come first serve basis. Deadline for getting a room at the reduced rate is May 14, but we advise making arrangements earlier to be certain to one of the reserved rooms. The Crowne Plaza reservation desk telephone # is 312-829-5000. You need to mention the TPSR Conference to get the rate.

The Crowne Plaza is in the Greektown area, on the corner of Halsted and Madison (333 W. Madison).

Based on the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility model (Hellison et al, 2000, 2003), the TPSR Alliance seeks to apply sport and physical activity to youth development in schools and after-school and summer programs through workshops, clinics,  publications, and other means.
